Reporting on the Right

Abstract: This study asks how German reporters covering right-wing movements and parties, particularly the German populist party AfD, experience working in a hostile, anti-press environment. Findings contribute to scholarship that treats journalists both as members of a professional group and as news workers whose occupation is becoming increasingly hazardous. It investigates how these attacks affect journalistic autonomy and how norms and practices are adjusted on an individual and institutional level.
