Examining How Mobile Users Navigate and Make Listening Decisions on Podcast Platforms

Charlotte Norsworthy Varnum, Bartosz Wojdynski, “Examining How Mobile Users Navigate and Make Listening Decisions on Podcast Platforms,” International Communication Association, A Pre-Conference Paper Presentation, May 2023

Overview: Podcasting as a storytelling medium has seen exponential growth in the last eight years — not only in the amount of content disseminated via this medium but also audience engagement. With an increasing number of audience members dedicating their time to podcasting, the way that audiences make decisions on which podcasts to engage with is a research area that has been underserved at this stage in the literature. The present research in progress seeks to build off of this newly established foundation of podcasting research of understanding audience behavior, decision-making, and motives.
