Public Affairs Communications Program
Public Affairs Professional Certificate
Grady College and the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) jointly offer their students the opportunity to obtain a Public Affairs Professional Certificate. This certificate is designed to prepare students for careers in public affairs.
The certificate offers two tracks: (1) Public Affairs Communications (PAC) for Grady College students and (2) Applied Politics for political science students. The certificate was designed to offer a competitive professional advantage to students majoring in both colleges who want to combine their interests in communication and politics.
The Carolyn Caudell Tieger Professor of Public Affairs Communications, Joseph Watson, Jr., teaches the core courses in the track. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Grady in Washington, D.C. summer program that features internships and a public affairs communications topics course.
The PAC track requires 6 courses: two core courses in PAC, two courses in Political Science, and two PAC- relevant Grady special topics or experiential courses. Students apply for acceptance into the certificate program. However, students outside the certificate can take these courses, thus broadening the number of students introduced to this discipline.

Grady @ DC

Grady@DC is a Washington, D.C. program that is a hybrid of classroom study and experiential learning. Grady@DC students are enrolled in a public affairs communications class taught at UGA’s Delta Hall on Capitol Hill and work at D.C.-area internships for course credit to amplify their learning with real-world experiences, mentoring and networking.
Through Grady@DC, PAC students are able to make meaningful contributions to our nation’s public life and gain real insights into what a life and career in Washington might resemble.
