Abstract: The news industry has seen tremendous benefit from solutions journalism reporting, but that work is focused on responses to problems in the communities we cover — not the problems and possible solutions within our own newsrooms. What if we took the four criteria of rigorous solutions journalism and applied them to news product development? This article considers a concise path for smaller news organizations to address newsrooms’ specific struggles with innovative product responses.
