Interventions that Matter: Researcher-Practitioner Partnership in Intimate Partner Prevention in Immigrant Communities
Jeong-Yeob Han, “Interventions that Matter: Researcher-Practitioner Partnership in Intimate Partner Prevention in Immigrant Communities,” presentation to U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Learning Hour, May 20, 2026.
Abstract: This invited talk, presented as part of the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Learning Hour on May 20, 2026, highlighted a researcher–practitioner partnership focused on strengthening intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention in immigrant communities. Drawing on a community-based initiative in a Korean American community, the presentation examined how culturally tailored strategies—including virtual case-simulation training for faith leaders and a six-month communication campaign delivered through ethnic media, social media, print, radio, and video—can strengthen IPV knowledge and community engagement. Findings indicated increased IPV knowledge among Korean American participants and greater exposure to IPV-related information through community and faith-based channels, underscoring the value of partnering with trusted community institutions in prevention efforts. The Learning Hour reached an audience of more than 250 participants representing all 51 U.S. states, providing an opportunity to share lessons from this researcher–practitioner collaboration with a broad national audience of professionals working in the field of violence prevention and response and campaign evaluation.
