Examining Transformational Teaching Through the Lens of Transformational Leadership
Keith Herndon, Ruth Poproski, Alexis Derickson (M.A. student) and Brittany Adams-Pope. “Examining Transformational Teaching Through the Lens of Transformational Leadership," practice/application paper accepted for the annual conference of the Association of Leadership Educators, San Diego, CA., July.
Abstract: This paper explains how a university fellowship in transformational teaching relies on key concepts from transformational leadership to empower its participants to identify and pursue opportunities for teaching-related change and leadership within their academic departments. The paper reflects how the program encourages the adoption of advanced teaching practices that facilitate transformative change-making as it models a key component of transformational leadership by fostering morale, motivation, and a shared vision of success. Note: This practice/application paper is an outcome of Herndon’s participation in the Transformative Teaching Fellowship of the Center for Teaching and Learning and the ongoing collaboration between Grady's Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership and UGA's Fanning Institute for Leadership Development.
