Abstract: This study examines photojournalism’s ethical obligation to represent communities comprehensively. Feature photographs allow photojournalists to capture human interest moments that are not driven by hard news values, and therefore might serve as a representative reflection of a community. Through an analysis of demographic similarities in gender and race between the photographer, the photographed and the community population, we contribute to the ongoing discussion of photojournalism ethics and the importance of diverse representation in media.
