InternViews: Sabrina Felix
InternViews: Sabrina Felix
InternViews is a series where we ask Grady College students to describe their internship experience.
Sabrina Felix is a fourth-year journalism major from Douglasville, Georgia. This year, she’s spending her summer as an Emma Bowen Fellow at Fox 5 Atlanta. Read more about her internship experience below.

Please provide a brief overview of your role and its associated responsibilities.
As an Emma Bowen Fellow, I rotate across different roles at the company throughout multiple summers until graduation. This year, I worked in the news department at the station.
What opportunities did you have during your internship?
I played a role in coordinating community live-shot locations for the World Cup while working at the assignment desk, where I also helped gather news tips and maintain communication with reporters and photographers. I shadowed three reporters on a variety of stories, went to Falcons training camp with the sports department and wrote more than 50 stories that aired across five different shows at the station.

What is one piece of work you are proud of creating in this role?
I produced an entire episode of ‘The Pulse,’ Fox 5’s evening talk show on the last day of my internship. I worked closely with Ashley Wood, the show’s producer, throughout the summer and I wanted to take up the challenge of producing an entire episode. She encouraged me to work towards that goal and celebrated with me when it was completed.
Did you recieve any mentorship or guidance? How did it impact your experience?
If there’s something you want to do, just ask. Managers can’t read your mind, so they can’t know what you want to learn if you just sit at your desk. Also, be nice to everyone! It makes your experience at work much more enjoyable if you get along with your co-workers.
How has this internship influenced your future career?
My past two summers at Fox 5 introduced me to the world of broadcast news producing and showed me that I don’t have to be on camera to be successful in the industry.
