Join a group of 12 Grady students to participate in eight-week internships in New York City while you learn about the many possibilities for your future in NYC!
The AdPR NYC: Experience and Exploration program combines coursework and experiential learning for students exploring careers in the one of the world’s leading cultural, financial and media centers.
AdPR NYC students will be enrolled in an advertising and public relations special topics class while working full-time in internships for course credit to augment their studies with real-world experiences, mentoring and networking opportunities with communications professionals in the New York market. This summer program will admit 12 students for a six credit hour program (combining a full-time internship and a three credit hour course) for an eight-week program in the summer through session.

For summer 2025, the program dates are:
Sunday, June 1, 2025 – Students move into apartments at NYU
Monday, June 2, 2025 – Internships and weekly class begins
Friday, July 25, 2025 – Last day of internships
Saturday, July 26, 2025- Students move out of apartments at NYC
This program is open to Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications undergraduate students and graduate students interested in exploring the New York market. The program is open to all Grady majors, but is geared towards Advertising and Public Relations majors.
ADPR 5990: Public Relations in a Large Market (3 credit hours)
ADPR 5010/5011: Internship (3 credit hours)
The coursework will convey to students the tactical skills essential to make them effective communications practitioners in these markets and to develop an understanding of the importance of planning.
Course Objectives
- To understand the critical tools used by communications professionals in large markets.
- To develop an understanding of the relationship between communicators and principals.
- To understand the importance of external relations and corresponding communications tools.
- To understand the significance of internal communications and their relationship to external communications.
- To create written communications materials including memoranda, statements, testimony, and talking points, et al.
The general daily course format is lecture, presentations by guest speakers, timed writing assignment, and student presentation. Skills will be honed through timed writing assignments, briefings, class presentations, media content, stakeholder analysis, and case studies.

Applications open before August of each year. Applications for Summer 2025 are due before midnight, Monday, November 4th, 2024.
Costs & Logistics
The program costs vary from year to year depending on number of students enrolled, fluctuation in lodging costs, and logistical changes to the program. The cost for Summer 2025 has not been determined at this time and is subject to change from what is advertised to students. The PROGRAM FEE for Summer 2024 was $4,165 (this includes the $150 security deposit paid separately upon acceptance to the program).
In addition to the program fee, students are expected to pay 6 hours of In-state tuition and UGA Mandatory Fees through their Athena student accounts after registration. The HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships can be applied towards TUITION only if applicable. *Out of state students will be subject to an additional $250 out of state student fee but will be charged IN-STATE tuition**
Program fee includes:
- 8 weeks lodging in fully-furnished dorms in NYU housing
- An opening and closing dinner
- Classroom use
- Some faculty related expenses
The AdPR NYC: Experience and Exploration program will be housed in NYU housing in Manhattan. You’ll be able to walk and use mass transit to get to internships, museums, activities, groceries, dry-cleaning and more!
Program fee does not include:
- 6 hours of in-state tuition and UGA Mandatory fees (See UGA’s website for updated tuition and fees rates for Summer 2025)
- Roundtrip airfare to NYC (Cars are not allowed at NYU housing)
- Ground transportation while in NYC (mass transit, cabs, etc.)
- Meals
- Bedding and living accessories: (kitchen dishes, utensils, pots and pans, etc. bed and bath linens)
- Personal Purchases
Students will be responsible for their meal costs during their time in NYC. There are full kitchens available in the apartment, as well as laundry and mail service. However, pots, pans, dishes, linens, etc are not provided and must be purchased on your own.
