Why is Turkish Content Taking Over the World
Carolina Acosta-Alzuru. (2023, June). “Why is Turkish Content Taking Over the World?” Invited by the International Academy of Television Sciences. Event: International Academy Day. Istanbul, Turkey.
Abstract: Fifteen years ago the international sales of Turkish television content amounted to a meager $10,000. Today it is projected to cross the $1 billion mark by the end of this year. Why does Turkish content travel so well? Two main factors that contribute to its success are the Turkish storytelling style and the quality of these productions. But the success of Turkish dramas varies in different regions of the world. These differences in reception are related to the cultural—not the geographic—distance between Türkiye and each consuming country.
