Ugly Sweater
Lauren Musgrove’s directorial debut feature film “Ugly Sweater” had its World Premiere at the Boston International Film Festival on April 13th where it won the Indie Spirit “Special Recognition” Award. The film was also an official selection at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival where it had its Iowa premiere on April 26 and screened on April 28. This film was also an official selection at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival, where it screened on April 27, and won the top award of “Best Feature.” In addition, this film won a Gold Remi award for “Best Use of NASA Footage” at Worldfest Houston International Film Festival where it was juried but not screened. This film has been selected for two summer festivals so far: Roxbury International Film Festival (screening on June 23) and the inaugural Athens Film Festival right here in town (screening as the opening night film on August 15).
Description: Determined to study astrophysics at an Ivy League college, high-school senior Ruby faces her anxiety as it appears vividly in her dreams, prompted by a seemingly magical ugly Christmas sweater. Within this tumultuous year, Ruby experiences her first love, nostalgia, the power of sisterhood, and a new path to find peace.
