Abstract: This paper critically examines the female gaze in media studies, tracing its evolution beyond Mulvey’s male gaze framework. While scholars continue to debate its theorization and definitions, the female gaze presents a transformative approach for subverting traditional gender hierarchies in media. By advocating for an intersectional perspective, this paper calls for empirical research to bridge the gap between theory and practice, highlighting the potential of the female gaze to reshape narratives, spectatorship, and media production.
