Monetization of Minors in Social Media Content
Jessica Maddox provided invited testimony to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for their hearing on Monetization of Minors in Social Media Content legislation (a proposed "family vlogging" or "kidflunecer" law). Maddox's remarks were designed to help legislators see influencing and content creation as labor, not just children appearing in a parent's" fun video." She drew on historical precedent of the 1939 Coogan Act in California to protect the financial interests of minors in the entertainment industries, as well as the several U.S. states that have passed laws in family vlogging and kidfluencing over the last few years.
