Abstract: This study examines the naming practices in news captions of a variety of news outlets and photojournalists across the United States. By exploring this across various types of photojournalists, along with the type and topic of news photograph and the demographics of the people depicted, I will develop a more detailed understanding of how and where these naming practices are used or discarded. Additionally, I will look at the organizational level of influence as a possible mediator as well as the distanced proximity of the COVID-19 pandemic.
