Wall Street Journal Development Editor to Speak About Resumes, Portfolios, Internships

Michelle LaRoche, development editor at The Wall Street Journal, will discuss the skills needed for success in today's market Nov. 4 at the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The program, presented by the Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership, will run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in Studio 1, located on the first floor of the college.

LaRoche will share insights with students about building a great resume and cover letter and presenting a portfolio.

As development editor, LaRoche is the gatekeeper on external applicants for news jobs at the WSJ. She also administers the student intern program. LaRoche is a 19-year veteran at Dow Jones, including serving as managing editor for the Real-Time News Desks at Dow Jones Newswires in New York. In that job, she managed a team of 65 editors who handled breaking news from around the world. She also was assistant managing editor for Dow Jones News Service and director of corporate information services for Dow Jones Newswires.

LaRoche holds a B.A. in English/Journalism from the University of New Hampshire.

The James M. Cox Jr. Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership prepares students and professionals for leadership roles in the news media. The Cox Institute was established in 1990 by the late Conrad Fink, a legendary journalism professor in the Grady College, as the Cox Institute for Newspaper Management Studies. It is named for the late James M. Cox Jr., who headed Cox Enterprises and Cox Broadcasting Corporation from 1957 until 1974.
