Kyra Posey, a graduate assistant with the Cox Institute, received the Innovator Award presented by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters at the DiGamma Kappa 2022 Winter Banquet.

Posey, a master’s student in Journalism at the University of Georgia, was nominated for the award by Dr. Keith Herndon, executive director of the Cox Institute, in recognition of her work on the institute’s podcast, The Lead, and other audio journalism work.

“I’m honored to receive this award from such a legendary association that’s dedicated to the success of broadcasting. I’m a passionate storyteller and hope to always honor that passion in everything that I do,” Posey said.

The Lead podcast, which launched in Fall 2016, is about how to get ahead in the news industry told by the people who did. It features a student host interviewing news industry professionals.  Posey began hosting The Lead in the Fall 2021 semester.

“The Lead is all about learning from journalism professionals, including those who work in broadcast,” Posey said. “Their stories inspire our listeners in every episode, and in many ways this award belongs to them.”

Posey interned with Georgia Public Broadcasting through the Atlanta Press Club and at CNN Audio. She also worked on the podcast for the UGA’s student-run newspaper, The Red & Black, and received awards from the Associated Collegiate Press.
