Keith Wilson, assistant professor in entertainment and media studies, has been selected to join the 2024 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
“I’m still surprised and honored to be invited to join the Academy in the 2024 cohort full of so many film artists I have long admired,” said Wilson. “My career has been a long and hard and joyous road with a long list of people who supported, challenged and mentored me.”
Throughout his career, Wilson has served as a director, creative producer, and visual artist. His work has been exhibited numerous times including at Sundance, Berlinale, South by Southwest, Hot Docs, the U.S. National Gallery of Art, documenta14 and the Museum of Modern Art. He was also selected as a 2021 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Fellow for his work, “I Didn’t See You There.”
This year, Wilson achieved another milestone in his career and was selected as one of 37 individuals nationwide invited to join the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his works, “Joonam” and “I Didn’t See You There.”
This invitation makes Wilson one of 487 members invited to join the Academy this year. This is the highest number of invitations issued by the Academy since 2020.
“We are thrilled to welcome this year’s class of new members. These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community,” said Bill Kramer, Academy CEO and Janet Yang, president.
When asked how he felt about being invited to join the Academy, Wilson stated, “This invitation would definitely not have happened without Grady and the EMST Department’s support of my creative work. The films I made and distributed while at UGA are the primary reason I am now an Academy member.”
