Broggi
Marilyn Broggi’s research examines the effects of persuasive practices used in digital media. She uses experimental and survey methodology to investigate the psychological processing and effectiveness of native advertisements on social media. Her academic research has been published in the Journal of Interactive Advertising and the Journal of Business Strategy. She also authored a chapter in the book, Social Media and Crisis Communication, 2nd Edition.
She served as the sole instructor to over 350 students in advertising courses at the University of Georgia (UGA) as a graduate student, including “Insights and Analytics” and “Introduction to Advertising.” She also assisted with course instruction for “Advertising Management.”
Marilyn was previously a Marketing Graduate Assistant for UGA Student Affairs, where she authored public relations articles for UGA Today and UGA’s social media accounts to showcase campus-wide programming. Additionally, she worked in marketing at UGA Recreational Sports for 5 years. There, she was awarded top student employee at one of the largest divisions on campus.
She formerly worked as an investigative reporting intern at ABC affiliate WSB-TV Atlanta, the #1 major market news station in the country. She covered police brutality cases, murder cases, and investigated medical practices at Fulton County Jail.
Her passions for both higher education and the First Amendment have led her to advocate for college-level Constitutional literacy legislation in her personal capacity. She has worked on two pieces of legislation that were inspired by a Georgia higher-education law requiring college students to study the Constitution. Marilyn assisted with the bipartisan passage of the South Carolina REACH Act, signed by Governor Henry McMaster in 2021. Because of her work, 21 thousand college students read the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, the Emancipation Proclamation, five Federalist Papers, and a document foundational to the African American Freedom Struggle annually. Additionally, she helped craft similar legislation in North Carolina that passed the NC House of Representatives in 2023.
Marilyn is a proud Marine Corps wife to Captain Jameson Broggi and mom to Mary Frances.
