Celebrating the Power of Soul: Black music on campus in the 80s

February 23, 2022 @ 7:15 pm - 8:15 pm

When Ron Schofield (ABJ ’83) joined the staff of campus radio station, WUOG, he noticed a void in programming. There was plenty of Rock & Roll but little to no R&B. He filled the void with “Power of Soul.” When Schofield moved up to chief announcer, he brought in his fraternity brothers Daryll (DJ) Jones and Scott Williams (AB ’86) as DJs to continue the popular show. Hear more about this time in UGA history and how WUOG proved to be a great launching pad for them professionally.  Condace Pressley (ABJ ’86), Director of Community and Public Affairs at WSB-TV, will moderate. Midori Jenkins, WUOG’s DJ Blue Moon and “In The Mix” Talk Show Co-Host will serve as host.  RSVP to ugagrady@gmail.com by Tuesday, Feb. 22 for the Zoom link.
