John T. Edge, author of “The Potlikker Papers,” host of the television show “TrueSouth” on SEC Network and ESPN and restaurant columnist for Garden & Gun, turns the lens inward in his most personal work yet, “House of Smoke: A Southerner Goes Searching for Home.” Edge’s memoir tells the stories of a small-town Georgia childhood shaped by violence, a South shadowed by racism, and a lifelong search for home. Edge enrolled in UGA in 1980 but left without a degree. Now, four decades, three degrees, and nine books later, he teaches narrative nonfiction writing in the Grady College’s low-residency MFA program.
