Online and Unguarded: Newsrooms Must Be Radical About Protecting Black Women Journalists

Perry, E., & Denetra Walker (Accepted/Upcoming 2024). “Online and Unguarded: Newsrooms Must Be Radical About Protecting Black Women Journalists,” in Feminist Media Manifestos.

Abstract: As some of the most vulnerable, unguarded talent in newsrooms, Black women journalists are increasingly and consistently targeted online. We call out newsroom leaders and associates to be radical in their practices to protect and create better policies for their talent. We argue that this type of care will be productive and universal to all journalists facing digital threats in an evolving, unpredictable (online) landscape.
