Grady Ambassadors

“Grady College is full of stories, and that’s my favorite part about it. Whether chatting with friends in the PAF after Dawgs with the Dean or running into a professor in the halls — everyone is willing to say hello. It’s amazing!”

Grady College is special because there is such a posture of intentionality and care in faculty and students alike. As a transfer student, I found a home within Grady College almost immediately. It quickly became evident that everyone within the college cares so much about each other and about the future.

Being able to work part-time at WUGA 91.7 and 94.5 FM has been a crucial part of my Grady experience. I have learned skills in reporting through audio that I would have never learned on my own. Being able to make connections with my colleagues at the station has given me a foundation in my search for jobs after college, and a different path in the journalism field that can sometimes be overlooked.

I feel so lucky to be involved with the photojournalism department within Grady, it has provided me with a community of like-passioned people and outstanding mentorship.

My favorite Grady College experience is being part of the New Media Institute, specially my involvement with the planning and curation of TEDxUGA! Through the NMI’s classes and initiates, I have gained a countless amount of skills, memories, and friendships!

“I will never forget when Dean Davis had everyone in the Peyton Anderson Forum sing Happy Birthday to me. I accidentally told him it was my birthday, and at the end of the brunch, he started singing out of nowhere. It’s little moments like this that make Grady College the best school ever!”

“I think the best thing about Grady is the familial atmosphere! Everybody is ready to help or talk to you, and I’ve always felt very comfortable and welcomed here.”

I participated in the Grady DC summer program this past summer. I interned on Capitol Hill while living in Delta Hall and taking a Grady class. I had so many amazing experience and gained tons of real world knowledge!

I think the UGA Industry is a great organization that creates a welcoming environment for so many students in Grady and at UGA in general.

What makes Grady College special is the group work ingrained in our curriculum. It allows us to collaborate with our classmates in a learning environment that helps prepare us for the workplace. The students at Grady are some of the most inspiring and creative classmates I’ve been able to work with which helps to inspire me to be better every day!

The Association of Women in Sports Media is the Grady student organization that means the most to me because it creates a space on campus for women who aspire to work in sports to come together, connect and support one another as we begin our careers in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

I’m looking forward to being in Ad Club this semester and being able to fellowship with others. It’s going to be great to connect with people who share similar interests and passions, and I’m excited about the opportunities to learn, collaborate, and grow together. Plus, collaborating on projects and sharing ideas with others who are equally passionate about advertising sounds like a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the workshops, guest speakers, and all the creative brainstorming sessions we’ll have. It’s going to be a fantastic experience!

“My favorite Grady College class to date is Reporting I with Prof. Hudson because that class was one of my first exposures to what it meant to be a journalist. I gained inspiration from that class that I plan to keep with me not just throughout my remaining time in Grady but through the rest of my journalism career.”

“My favorite Grady College class to date is Law of Mass Communication with Dr. Jonathan Peters. Not only did this class ignite my interest in media law, but Dr. Peters engaging demeanor and passion for the subject matter pushed me to succeed in the course.”

Production Basics with Professor Wilson because he was so sweet and funny the whole time, while being real with us about the industry and the different implications of the job.

My favorite Grady College class thus far has been Web Development, which is for my New Media Certificate, because the class material was new territory for me so it challenged me in several ways. It felt good seeing my final work and being able to add it to my portfolio.

My favorite class I have taken at Grady so far has been Web Development with John Weatherford! Taking that class helped me discover that web developing is something I wanted to take seriously, and because of all of the fun projects we got to work on I was able to have so much freedom creatively to do whatever I was interested in.
