Video spotlights 2014 Go Global, Choose China study abroad program

Six students pursuing degrees in communications-related fields embarked on a three-week journey in May for the inaugural Go Global, Choose China study abroad program, which is offered through the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Georgia.

Led by Juan Meng, an assistant professor of public relations at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, the program gave students the opportunity to explore and immerse themselves in one of the fastest emerging markets in the world. The group gained insights about the Chinese culture and learned about one of the future centers of brand communication.

“Listening to the fascinating professionals and learning about the differences between Western and Eastern practices has certainly changed my perspective on public relations and advertising,” said Davis Lakeman, a senior advertising major from Dawsonville, Ga.

Students visited universities, corporations and agencies in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. Other highlights included trips to Lan Kwai Fong Street, the ancient Wuzhen water town, the quaint city of Hangzhou, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.
