Lunch and Learn with Lorena Antezana Barrios

Lorena Antezana Barrios, associate professor from University of Chile, lead this lunch and learn. The title of the discussion is: “Chilean Audiovisual Fiction in Times of Globalization.”

RSVP with Sherry Allen by Friday, Jan. 14.

Since 2008, for different reasons, global transformations have been predicted to cause the gradual death of the fictional television industry. However, to date this has not happened. In this presentation I will go through the changes that the Chilean audiovisual industry has experienced during this period, reviewing some of its fundamental milestones: the consolidation of nighttime broadcasting, the return of classic melodramas with the incorporation of Chilean soap operas competing with foreign productions from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Turkey, and the importance of state funds for the production of quality fiction.
