Nearly 400 Grady College students and alumni seeking careers in advertising, broadcast and print journalism, creative mass media, digital, media sales or public relations connected with more than 50 employers during the 13th annual Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day, Feb. 8, 2017.
“The annual Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day is always a highlight as it exposes our students to the variety of options they have in addition to connecting our employer partners to students in meaningful ways,” said Kelvin Rutledge, director of Experiential Programs. “From our panels and networking options to our career fair, we believe this collaborative event showcases and highlights the best and brightest parts of the Grady College experience.”
In addition to the Career Fair, students were invited to a networking breakfast and lunch and two panels. Maximizing Your Potential at the Career Fair, moderated by Nicholas Levan of Turner, featured Ryan Carty, sales recruiter at TEGNA Media; Scott Elledge, director of digital journalism & content, WJBF NewChannel 6; Larry Silbermann, vice president and general manager, WTOC; and Bari Soash, news director, WALB-TV.
The second morning panel, First 100 Days on the Job, was moderated by Trey Sheneman, vice president, Blueprint Digital. Panelists were Laurel Berenguer, human resource director, Local Media, Meredith Corporation:CBS46; Nathan Bohannon, multimedia communications representative, Jackson EMC; and Richie Knight, senior partner, HW Creative Marketing.
Career Day Platinum Level sponsors were CNN and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Jackson EMC was the Gold Level sponsor. Silver Level sponsors included Blueprint and Public Broadcasting Atlanta.
