Special Movie Event: Abigail Spencer Brings ‘Winter Light’ to UGA

Abigail Spencer, starring actress in the Peabody Award-winning show “Rectify” on the Sundance Channel, and “True Detective” on HBO, will be at the University of Georgia Feb. 19 to introduce and discuss “Winter Light,” a 29-minute film that she produced.

The event, including a screening of the movie and a Q&A with Spencer afterward, will take place at 2 p.m. in the Tate Center Theater. The Q&A will be moderated by Nate Kohn, associate director of the Peabody Awards.

“Winter Light,” directed by Julian Higgins, is adapted from a short story by James Lee Burke.

“Winter Light” features veteran actor Raymond J. Barry, Q'orianka Kilcher (“The New World”), Vincent Kartheiser (“Mad Men”), and Josh Pence (“Social Network”). The story is a modern-day Western set in the frozen wilderness of Montana, where an aging, isolated college professor confronts two hunters trespassing on his property and begins an escalating battle of wills that tests his faith in everything he holds dear.

Spencer’s visit is made possible by support from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Peabody Awards, as well as the Willson Center for the Humanities and Arts and Film Studies at UGA.
