Quindelda “Q.” McElroy (Ph.D. student). “Same Sh*t, Different Modality: Rapid Pace of Digital Innovation Adds Complexity to Experiences of Diverse Women Media Leaders in U.S. Newsrooms” has been accepted for presentation with the Commission on the Status of Minorities at AEJMC’s Southeast Colloquium, Tampa, March 12-14. Abstract: This research investigates the intersectional experiences of diverse women who hold high-ranking positions in the U.S. media industry. While women’s representation in management has grown historically, leaders say they continue to face systemic hurdles like gendered racism, pay disparities and a lack of executive mentorship. The study specifically foregrounds how digital innovation, including the rise of Generative AI, adds layers of complexity to their professional media roles and often results in their expertise being scrutinized. Ultimately, the research aims to uncover the unique strategies these women employ to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
