Profiles of Tenacity: Sabrina Felix

September 25, 2025

Sabrina Felix is a third year journalism major from Douglasville, Georgia, expected to graduate in May 2027. Felix serves as a fellow for the Emma Bowen Foundation and is the president of the UGA Caribbean Student Association.

Read her Q/A below.

Why did you choose your major?

I’ve always loved hearing other people’s stories and my favorite subjects in school were reading and writing, so journalism just seemed like the perfect career that combined both of my interests. I’m leaning toward a career in either local news or entertainment reporting; two really different fields in a lot of different ways, but at the end of the day they both revolve around telling people’s stories. Besides, with entertainment reporting I’ll be able to use my wealth of knowledge about pop culture, which needs somewhere to go besides my text exchanges with loved ones’.

What does tenacity mean to you?

Persevering through life, even when the going gets rough. There were times last school year where I really struggled to focus on school and my career because of some personal things, but I pushed through those slumps because I knew the reward from working through the challenges heavily outweighed the temporary relief giving up would’ve brought me.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to other Grady students?

Don’t be afraid to make connections. Some of the biggest supporters in my collegiate journey have been my Grady professors and peers. I know everybody says it, but this college really is a special place on campus, and it’s wholeheartedly shaped me into the person I am today.

What or who has had the biggest impact on your life?

My family has always encouraged me to strive for my dreams and stay true to myself while doing so. Without their support, I don’t know how I would have accomplished anything I’ve done in the past few years.

What has been your biggest accomplishment in the past year?

Becoming an Emma Bowen Fellow at Fox 5 Atlanta. I struggle a lot with imposter syndrome, so becoming an EBF fellow felt like a sign I’m on the path I’m meant to be walking. Working at an active news station day in, day out, all summer long was a dream come true. Everyone I met was so welcoming and encouraged me to stretch myself in ways I didn’t think were possible. I became a better media maker because of that experience and I’m excited to go back next summer and continue to grow.

What is your favorite place on campus and why?

The first floor of the Tate Student Center. I work at an office down there where I’ve met my closest friends on campus. There’s a lot of natural light and ample chairs that not many people use often. Maybe I shouldn’t be telling you all this.

What advice would you give to your future self?

Remember why you’re doing what you’re doing and keep that in the forefront of your mind when you encounter setbacks. Life is never easy and journalism definitely isn’t at times, but when you’re doing something you’re passionate about, it’s worth it. Also, lean on your support system when you need to; that’s what they’re here for.
