Hye Jin Yoon is the president-elect of the American Academy of Advertising
Grady College is pleased to share that Hye Jin Yoon, associate professor in advertising and public relations, has been elected to serve as president-elect for the American Academy of Advertising.
The American Academy of Advertising (AAA) is a non-profit organization that supports advertising and public relations related research. It aims to foster research, provide a forum for discussion and support advertising education.
Yoon will serve a three-year term. During the first year (2025 – 2026), she will serve as president-elect, the second year (2026 – 2027) as president and the third year (2027 – 2028) as past-president. Her term will begin on March 6, 2025, during the AAA Executive Committee during the annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“I have called AAA my family and home for almost 20 years. I am who I am today, thanks to my AAA colleagues, mentors, mentees, and friends who have taught me so much over the years,” shared Yoon. “After serving on various committees throughout the years, successfully co-chairing and organizing last year’s AAA Conference as the vice president solidified my commitment to further my service. I am thrilled to be the incoming president-elect. Members have entrusted me with important responsibilities, and I am ready to give my very best in serving the community. I am honored to add my name to the list of UGA’s Grady College professors who have served in this role. Thank you to Grady College and the AdPR department for your unwavering support. Together, we will achieve great things!”
Yoon’s research specializations include using humor and incongruity messaging at the intersection of health, environmentalism, sustainability, mindful consumption, and brand activism on digital and interactive media. She is one of two faculty mentors for the Health and Environmental Advertising Research Team (HEART) at Grady College, a vibrant research group of Ph.D. students, junior scholars, and Grady faculty. She has published over 55 articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
Yoon’s election as president-elect showcases her commitment to promoting excellence in advertising education and research. Her leadership will help to contribute to the ongoing success of the American Academy of Advertising.
“AdPR is proud to have another president of the American Academy of Advertising in house,” said Juan Meng, a UGA Athletic Association Endowed Professor and head of the AdPR department. “Our advertising program has a long-standing tradition of commitment, involvement and leadership at AAA. Our advertising faculty, graduate students, and former colleagues demonstrate the best examples of advancing academic and professional growth of advertising. We are so happy for Dr. Yoon and appreciate her leadership and representation at this leading organization for advertising research and education.”
Grady College congratulates Dr. Yoon on this prestigious accomplishment and looks forward to the impact she will make during her tenure.
Past Academy Presidents from the Department of Advertising and Public Relations include Karen King (2019), professor emeritus; Tom Reichert (2018), former AdPR department head and current dean of the College of Information and Communications at the University of South Carolina; and Dean Krugman (2009), professor emeritus.
