In addition to Study Abroad opportunities, Grady College offers incredible experiences for students within the US. The Grady LA Field Study and Internship Program allows students to gain valuable hands-on experience in the Entertainment industry while earning course credit.
Students spend eight weeks during the Summer interning at some of L.A.’s leading entertainment companies. In the past, students have interned at companies such as Twentieth Century Fox, E! Entertainment, ABC Television and more. During these internships, students gain hands-on experience working with some of the industry’s top professionals. In addition to the internship, students will be enrolled in an Industry Studies course, which provides incredible networking and mentoring opportunities with key industry players. In addition, students will tour various studio and production facilities in Los Angeles to gain an insider’s perspective into the industry.
Altogether, participants will receive 6 credit hours while staying in fully furnished apartments in the heart of the city. Join us on the Grady L.A. Field Study and Internship Program and immerse yourself in your entertainment passions.
Grady LA Field Study and Internship Program operates in Summer I and Summer Iterms each summer. For summer 2023, students are to arrive in LA on Saturday June 3, 2023 and depart from LA on Saturday July 29, 2023.
Students on the Grady LA field Study Program will receive 6 upper-level elective credit hours. Three of these credit hours will be obtained through the student’s internship, and the other three will be earned through the Industry Studies course.
Students participating on the Grady LA Field Study and Internship Program are responsible for finding their own internships for the summer, with the assistance and direction of the Program Director and Faculty. Once accepted to the program, students should be proactive in seeking out and applying for internships as instructed by the Program Director to ensure that they have obtained an internship by the beginning of the program.
Students will intern Monday through Thursday of each week while in LA and attend class on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 8pm-10pm. On Fridays, students will participate in various excursions that are relevant to the industry.
This program is only available to current Grady College majors. Students must have completed their Grady intro courses prior to the program’s start date in order to be considered. Students need to have a basic understanding of the entertainment industry.

Applications open in August of each year. Applications for Summer 2024 are due Friday, November 10, 2023. Interviews will follow shortly after.
Costs & Logistics
The program costs vary from year to year depending on the number of students enrolled and logistical changes. The ESTIMATED program fee for Summer 2023 has not been determined at this time and is subject to change from what is advertised to students. The program fee for Summer 2022 was $4,835 (this includes the $150 security deposit paid upon acceptance to the program). This amount is only an estimate and is subject to change until all students are accepted to the program.
In addition to the program fee, students are expected to pay 6 hours of In-state tuition and UGA Mandatory Fees through their Athena student accounts after registration. The HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships can be applied towards TUITION only if applicable. **non-UGA transient students may have an additional $250 fee upon registration**
PROGRAM FEE INCLUDES:
- 8 weeks lodging in fully-furnished apartments in Los Angeles
- Opening and closing dinners
- Program related excursions and activities (ex. Studio tours, unique movie experiences, etc.)
- Some program related faculty expenses
- Miscellaneous minor program related expenses
PROGRAM FEE DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- 6 hours of in-state tuition and UGA Mandatory fees (See UGA’s tuition rates for 2023)
- Roundtrip airfare/rental car expenses/transportation expenses/etc. (students will need to have their own reliable transportation with them during the summer… Some students decide to rent a car when they arrive in LA, others drive their personal vehicles to LA, some use uber or taxi services as their primary mode of transportation in LA)
