Grady Homecoming Tailgate 2014 welcomes record crowd

The combination of alumni coming home; faculty, staff and Ambassadors greeting them; the launch of the Centennial Celebration; and perfect game day weather all combined for a wonderful Grady Homecoming celebration Oct. 4. A record crowd of nearly 300 people enjoyed barbecue on the huge Grady lawn.

“Wow! What a weekend … from a packed Classic Center dancing along to Freedom Sings on Thursday to Saturday where we shattered every existing record for the Grady tailgate, and on a day suitable for framing,” commented Charles Davis, dean of Grady College in a letter to faculty and staff. “It was simply stunning, and all of that red and black looked so beautiful.”

In addition to the lunch, Davis and Deborah Norville, host of “Inside Edition” and a 1979 Grady College graduate, joined another Grady grad, Loran Smith (ABJ '62) on his Bulldog Tailgate radio show to discuss the legacy of sports journalism at Grady College and the celebration of the Centennial.

Davis also wrote a feature on the history of sports and journalism at Grady for the UGA vs. Vanderbilt game day program.
