Grady College launches ‘Feed the G’ campaign to benefit the Food Bank of NEGA’s Hunger Bowl
To help feed local families in need this Thanksgiving and beyond, Grady College is collecting food and monetary donations through Friday, Nov. 11 for the 2016 Hunger Bowl.
“Each year, faculty and staff at Grady make the Hunger Bowl a priority for Grady College, and our committee works to raise the bar,” said Dean Charles Davis. “This year, we’ve involved students like never before – and we hope to reach new heights as we try to answer a very real need in Northeast Georgia.”
Student groups have decorated this year’s collection bins for canned or other non-perishable food items. They are located on the first through the fourth floors of Grady College. According to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, the organization that coordinates the food drive, every dollar raised purchases six pounds of food, enough for four meals. Cash or checks—made out to the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia— can be dropped off at the business office.

New this year is a text-to-give option. On a mobile phone, insert 91-999 into your text “To:” line, then type HUNGERBOWL2016 into the message line. You will receive a text that will take you directly to the donation page and there will be a drop down menu where you will click on “Grady College Charitable Committee” and follow instructions to complete your donation.
A drive-up and drop-off collection will be available at the non-gated section of the Psychology parking lot (N09) on Thursday, Nov. 3 and Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Volunteers will be on hand to help with donations.
On Thursday, Nov.10, students will be challenged to bring a can to campus and “Feed the G.” Students will place their cans inside a “G” located in the paved area outside of the Peyton Anderson Forum until the “G” is filled.
“The committee tried to think of a fun and interactive way to involve students, so we came up with the idea of feeding the ‘G,'” said Kim Landrum, member of the Grady College Charitable Committee. “The ‘G’ is significant in that it represents Grady, UGA, Georgia and Giving. We will be recording a time-lapse video to show the progress during the day and hope students will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in this worthwhile event.”
Name cards declaring “I fed the G” will be available to post on the Peyton Anderson Forum windows so students can show their pride. One student participant will be selected at random to receive a prize from the Dean’s office.
To further promote Grady College’s participation in the Hunger Bowl, students in Landrum’s Graphic Communication class (ADPR 3520) had the opportunity to showcase their design skills. During the past two weeks, students worked to create social media campaigns focused on educating students, faculty and staff about the event benefitting the Northeast Georgia Food Bank. Finalists were selected and one student’s work was chosen to appear on Grady’s social media channels.
Kristina Mundt’s designs were chosen by the Grady College Charitable Committee from more than 35 student entries. Other student finalists include Jack Moran, Peyton Jones, Ashley Moody, Emily Barton, Claire Dickey, Lauren Brennan, and Katie Pilson.
