Grady College invites students to apply to the first Social Media Student Advisory Board

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is offering students the chance to be part of its first Social Media Student Advisory Board. The board will consist of 8 to 10 students who will have the opportunity to give back to the college by providing helpful insight. It is also a volunteer effort that can be included on résumés focusing on a topic important to employers.

In order to be considered for a position on the board, students must be in Grady College and have experience managing or posting on at least one non-personal social media account.

The student board will provide insight and advice on topics involving Grady’s social media efforts including:

* optimal ways to use current social media platforms

* discussions of other platforms Grady College should consider

* content suggestions and ideas

* campaign ideas of how Grady College can more actively engage students and other audiences

* suggestions about video, photography and graphics on platforms

* feedback on recent posts and campaigns

* examples of successful accounts and/or campaigns

* discussions about Twitter chats, hashtags, etc.

The Grady Social Media Student Advisory Board will meet for one hour, three times during the semester (tentative times, which are subject to change depending on the availability of the majority of the Board, include: Friday, Sept. 25 from noon to 1 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 22 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, Nov. 18 8 to 9 a.m.). Lunch or refreshments will be provided during meetings, and those who are recognized as active participants will receive a Grady swag pack at the end of the semester. Fall board members will be eligible for consideration on the spring semester board.

To apply for the board, email Sarah Freeman (freemans@uga.edu) by Sept. 8 and provide a résumé, a statement of interest (one paragraph), social media experience (one paragraph), a social media handle to at least one personal account, and a social media handle to a non-personal account that you are involved with (briefly describe your involvement).

Students selected for the board will be notified by Sept. 14.
