SUMMARY:Photojournalism in a World of Crisis with Dr. Lauren Walsh
DESCRIPTION:Instructor and author Walsh addresses the critical role photojournalism plays and explores numerous challenges and threats the industry faces. \nWalsh teaches at The New School and New York University\, where she is the director of the Gallatin School Photojournalism Lab. She is also the director of Lost Rolls America\, a national public archive of photography and memory. \nWalsh will talk on the subject of two of her books: “Conversations on Conflict Photography\,” an introspective look at the complexities and nuances of photographing war and humanitarian crisis\, and her newest book\, “Through the Lens: The Pandemic and Black Lives Matter\,” featuring a series of conversations with photographers and photo editors reflecting on how they documented ethical\, technological and safety concerns in 2020. \nShe is currently co-directing “Biography of a Photo\,” an in-progress documentary about two iconic photographs of conflict. \nAdditionally\, Walsh’s research interests include politics and ethics of photography\, and contemporary visual culture. She has been interviewed on CNN and BBC and has appeared on radio programs and as an expert on photography in the documentary “9/11: Ten Years Later.” \nSome of Walsh’s photography and research can be found on her Instagram account\, @LWalsh242.
