Tieger Joins The Cox Center Board
Carolyn Tieger, an independent communications consultant living in Naples, Florida, has joined the Board of Visitors of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research.
Tieger spent four decades in the nation’s capital, serving on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, in the Reagan White House, in two international public relations firms and as an owner of her own business. Tieger was a partner in Porter Novelli, where she ran the firm’s D.C. office. She also served as the firm’s global public affairs leader.
Tieger worked for Burson‑Marsteller for 11 years, chairing and building the firm’s worldwide environmental practice. She also was an owner and general manager of Goddard Claussen’s Washington, D.C. office. Among her other major achievements are leading the communications campaign for the successful legislative efforts that secured national class action reform and permanent normal trade relations with China.
“It is an honor to have Carolyn join the Board,” Cox Center Director Dr. Lee B. Becker said. “She brings expertise that will assist the Center in its programming, which involves journalists and other communication professionals.”
The Board of Visitors provides advice to the Center administration on a range of issues, including changes in the work environment of professional communicators, structural adaptation taking place in society that affect communication industries and organizations, and the communication needs of society.
Tieger is a graduate of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. The Cox International Center is an outreach unit of the Grady College.
Tieger joins nine other distinguished professionals on the Cox Center Board of Visitors.
