Cox Center Board of Visitors Member Dadisman Authors Unique History of University of Georgia
Carrol Dadisman, a member of the Board of Visitors of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research, has authored a new book relating the history of the University of Georgia through stories of student life.
Dadisman drew those stories from the pages of The Red and Black student newspaper, founded in 1893.
The book, “Dear Old U-G-A,” traces the history of student organizations, explores the origins of campus traditions, documents the resistance to coeducation and desegregation, and reflects on the university’s role in major wars and military training.
It also documents the history of men’s and women’s athletic teams.
The 8.5”x11” hardback book’s 384 pages are illustrated with more than 200 historic photos and contain the names of more than 2,000 students -- many of whom went on to distinguished careers and professional fame.
Dadisman is a 1956 UGA graduate of the University of Georgia, former Georgia newspaper editor and retired publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat. He has served on the Board of Visitors of the Cox Center since 2009.
The book was published by The Red and Black Publishing Company, the independent organization of student journalism at UGA. Dadisman is a longtime member of The Red and Black board of directors and a former student editor of the newspaper.
