Joins Center as Administrative Specialist
Melanie M. Zuñiga, a graduate of Texas State University in San Marcos, joined the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research at the University of Georgia in early October as an Administrative Specialist.
Zuñiga, who earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a speciality in public relations, is in charge of the day-to-day management of the financial activities of the Center and provides programming assistance for all phases of the Center’s activities.
Zuñiga replaced Audrey Greeson, former administrative specialist in the Cox Center, who assumed a position in late September at the Office of Information Technology in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia.
“We are extremely pleased to have Melanie join the Center,” Dr. Lee B. Becker, director of the Cox Center, said. “She brings to the job demonstrated managerial and organizational skills that will be of great value to us.”
Zuñiga worked for a variety of retail firms in her hometown of San Antonio, TX, before moving to Athens. Her responsibilities included hiring, sales, employee scheduling, creating monthly business plans, and promotion.
Dr. Becker indicated that the Center will miss Greeson, who moved to a higher administrative position in the Franklin College. “We appreciate her work for the Center for the last two years and wish her great success in her new assignment,” he added.
The Cox Center is a unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.
Zuñiga began work in the Center on October 8.
