Visitors from Singapore Polytechnic Explore Long-Term Grady Partnership
The director of the School of Business and Accountancy at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore and two of his colleagues spent a day in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in April to discuss opportunities for collaboration in the area of advertising and public relations.
During the visit, Director Philip Lau, Senior Lecturer Tan Lai Wan and Senior Manager Nancy Yeo-Tan Lay Geak met with Grady faculty and staff of the UGA Office for International Affairs and toured the Grady College.
The guests from Singapore had meetings with Dr. Alison Alexander, senior associate dean for academic affairs, Dr. Karen King, head of the advertising and public relations department, Ms. Jane Gatewood, director of the Office for International Affairs, Dr. Leonard Reid, professor in the advertising and public relations department, and Drs. Lee Becker and Tudor Vlad, director and associate director of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research
The visit was organized by the Cox Center , a unit of the Grady College dedicated to international outreach activities.
“We have been impressed with the reputation of the Grady College and of its advertising and public relations department,” Lau said. The purpose of the visit, he said, was to explore the possibility of collaboration on a degree program in advertising and public relations.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Singapore, Lau said. It started in 1963 as a small college, with 116 students, he added, and now 15,762 students are enrolled in its eight schools.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic is exploring a number of collaborations and promised to let the Cox Center know of its future plans.
