Overview

Join your peers this summer on the French Riviera and walk the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France! In this program, students will not only attend the Cannes Film Festival – viewing films before they make their big screen debut and rubbing elbows with prominent film critics, distributors, directors, and producers, but will expand their perspectives on global media and film while taking classes, taught by UGA professors.

Applications open in August of each year. Applications for Summer 2023 are due Thursday, November 10th, 2022.

Costs & Logistics

During this three-week program, students will be staying in Juan Les Pins, France. The residence, Couleurs Soleil, is conveniently located within a short walking distance from grocery stores, restaurants, the train station, laundry facilities, and the beach.

The program costs vary from year to year depending on number of students enrolled, exchange rates, and logistical changes. The ESTIMATED program fee for Maymester 2023 has not been determined at this time and is subject to change from what is advertised to students. The Program Fee for May 2022 was $2,735 (this includes the $300 security deposit paid upon acceptance to the program). The program fee is only an estimate and is subject to change until all students are accepted to the program.

In addition to the program fee, students are expected to pay 6 hours of In-state tuition and UGA Mandatory Fees through their Athena student accounts after registration. The HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships can be applied towards TUITION only if applicable. **non-UGA transient students may have an additional $250 fee upon registration**

Student Lodging

Students will stay two to a room in a small furnished apartment in Juan Les Pins. The apartment includes:

  • Linens: twin-sized sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, and hand towels. (Clean linens provided once a week)
  • Appliances: two-eye stove top, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee pot, (no stove)
  • Kitchen items: pots and pans, dishes, eating utensils, cups, mugs, etc.
  • TV
  • 1 full-sized bathroom to share
  • 1 small balcony
  • 1 clothes rack for drying clothes
  • NOT INCLUDED: toilet paper, paper towels, food, spices, soap, clothes iron, etc. (Students are responsible for purchasing these items themselves). **Note, this is an apartment and not a hotel. Normal hotel amenities are not provided.

Prime Location

Just one block from the ocean, the apartment our students stay in for this program has a scenic view of the French Riviera, and is conveniently located within walking distance to the classroom, public transportation, grocery stores, restaurants, laundry services, pharmacies, and shopping.

Dining Options

Students are responsible for purchasing their own meals while on this program, besides a welcome and closing dinner celebration that is provided by the program.

The residence is just a couple blocks away from a grocery store that provides any necessary food and household items (toilet paper, soap, toiletries, etc).

“Restaurant Row” is also just a couple blocks from the student residence where there are many delicious restaurants to choose from if students decide to eat out.

Program fee includes:

  • 3.5 weeks lodging in apartments located in Juan-Les-Pins, France (2 train stops over from Cannes)
  • Travel Health Insurance (students are automatically enrolled)
  • Opening and Closing Dinner Celebrations
  • Badges to the Cannes Film Festival
  • Some faculty related expenses
  • Miscellaneous minor program related expenses

Program fee does not include:

  • 6 hours of in-state tuition and UGA Mandatory fees (see UGA’s website for updated tuition rate for 2023)
  • International airfare (Typically around $1,300)
  • Rail, bus, taxi costs while in country (Estimated total $300)
  • Meals (Estimated $30-$45 a day.. depending on personal eating habits)
  • Personal Purchases
  • 100 euro refundable security deposit at residence upon arrival (will receive back at check out)
  • Passport cost if the student does not have one already
  • International Data plan for your personal cell phone. This is a requirement.
  • Miscellaneous personal expenses
