Grady BPC: Overview

Once selected for the BPC Fellows Program at UGA, the professional or researcher will consult with the program director and formulate the curriculum tailored for their needs. The program is usually for a one-year period (two regular semesters for a program fee of US $10,000) though it may be extended for an extra fee. The professionals can choose and sit in the undergraduate and graduate courses offered in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA. During the program, the faculty members in the college – internationally and nationally regarded in their respective areas – cover a wide array of communication fields and provide integrated ways to enhance the fellows’ knowledge.

Courses

Courses include Social Media, Digital Advertising, Media Planning, Public Relations Management, Health and Medical Journalism, Public Opinion, Risk Communication and Sports Communication, Advanced Public Affairs Communications. The courses cover emerging media topics: social media and smart media.

Industry Field Trips

In addition, the program provides field trips (one per semester) to media companies including CNN, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ESPN; global companies including Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, and Verizon Wireless; and communication agencies including BBDO and Porter Novelli. Fellows are invited to department and college events relevant to their interests.

English Training

One 8-week IEP (Intensive English Program, www.iep.uga.edu) course will be provided during their first semester in the program. English tutoring is continuously available through the IEP service at UGA.

Cultural Experience

Each fellow will be provided of two UGA football tickets during the fall season. The Georgia Bulldogs, representing the UGA in the sport of American football, have won two national championships (NCAA football) and 14 conference championships, and have played in 48 bowl games, the fifth most in the NCAA football history.

Certificate

Upon completion of the BPC Fellows Program, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a display plaque.

Events and Engagement

BPC fellows engage with faculty and other fellows regularly to exchange ideas for their research and training. Fellows are also often invited to department, college, university, and industry events to network and engage further.

Cover letter stating your purpose of joining the program and research plan.
Resume (include your current affiliation information, job experiences, education, and any notable awards or publications.)

There is no deadline for application. Applications can be accepted throughout the year, but it is strongly recommended that the prospective fellow apply at least three months before his or her planned start date. Invitation decision is normally made in two weeks after receiving a complete application.
