Become a member of the inaugural Peabody Student Honor Board

The Peabody Awards has announced the creation of a new Student Honor Board that will help evaluate Peabody Award submissions in the digital realm and will select winners in a new parallel student-run Peabody Award program for innovation and excellence in digital programming.

While the board is new, student involvement is not.  Students have always been an important part of the Peabody Awards process and this board focuses student involvement to an arena in which they are very familiar: digital and online media.  As before, students selected for the Honor Board will serve as Peabody Awards Ambassadors and will work at all Peabody-hosted events, including the annual awards ceremony in New York City.  Honor Board members will also earn a $500 stipend to help defray their travel costs to New York City for the annual awards ceremony May 31, 2015.

The Application Process

All University of Georgia undergraduate students are eligible to apply.

Applicants are asked to select one program in the digital realm (content on web, interactive or mobile platforms) that they think achieves excellence in digital storytelling and sets a high standard for innovation in the digital space. The Peabody Awards celebrate Stories that Matter and past Peabody Award winners can be viewed on the Peabody website.

Applicants must then write a two-page argument in support of the digital program or website selected explaining why and how it deserves recognition for excellence and innovation. Visuals/graphics and hyperlinks may be included.

The selection committee will evaluate all entries and invite up to 20 students to participate in the second and final round of the selection process. Finalists will be contacted by Feb. 2 and will be asked to make a seven minute in-person presentation in support of the selected program. The committee will then choose the twelve students who will comprise the inaugural Peabody Student Honor Board.

The Student Honor Board will begin working immediately. The Peabody Awards Ceremony takes place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

Submissions must include:
1. The applicant’s name, year in school, major/College (or intended direction), and email address.
2. A two-page narrative pitching the recommendation including the program title and a link to where the program can be found. Visualizations such as screen captures and other graphics are welcome.

Entries should be submitted via email at peabody@uga.edu with subject title: “Peabody Student Honor Board Application.”
