Eight advertising and public relations students from Karen King’s and Juan Meng’s Campaigns class traveled to New York City Feb.29 to watch a live-taping of “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.” This semester, the class is focusing on crafting a social strategy for TBS’ newest late-night television show confronting political and cultural issues.
The students got a firsthand look at their client’s work with VIP access to the taping inside CBS studios. They sat in the live audience, toured the set and met the show’s executive producer, head writer/showrunner and Samantha Bee. They were able to ask questions about the leaders’ views of the show’s identity, their social media preferences and more.
Senior public relations student Myles Haslam said the trip gave him a clearer picture of the show’s “personality,” which will help as the students create their social campaign for the show.
“Sam has so much energy and enthusiasm for this project and you could feel that radiating throughout the whole studio,” Haslam said. “Our class has been researching and studying this show for weeks, but the chance to…experience everything firsthand really personalized this project for us. We left this trip with an even greater drive to create a campaign for the show. It’s become more than just a grade in a class now.”
