About: Barry Hollander’s research interests include political communication and, in particular, how people learn from mainstream and alternative sources of news.

Research Interests and Activities
Dr. Hollander studies the social and political effects of media, in particular how people learn about public affairs and the consequences of such knowledge. He has published extensively in such academic journals as Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, and Political Communication.
His primary teaching areas are basic and advanced reporting, with special emphasis on data journalism. At the graduate level he teaches Public Opinion and other special topics.
He is a former reporter at daily newspapers in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida.
Awards and Fellowships
Dr. Hollander has been the Department of Journalism’s teacher the year, honored as a Student Government teacher of the year, and received the UGA Honors Program’s top teaching award.
