Carolyn Tieger

A Washington D.C. communications veteran, Carolyn Tieger is considered one of the top public affairs strategists in the country, especially when it comes to tough legislative issues, corporate and industry crises, litigation, and issues management.

Now an independent communications consultant living in Naples, Florida, Carolyn founded entrePReneur Communications in 2010 where she takes on clients with issues of particular interest to her.  Most recently, she managed communications surrounding a major environmental crisis, as well as a national awareness campaign on palliative care for the seriously ill.

Carolyn spent four decades in the nation’s capital, serving on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, in the Reagan White House, in two international public relations firms and as an owner of her own business.  Most recently, she was a partner in Porter Novelli, where she ran the firm’s DC office.  She also served as the firm’s global public affairs leader and managed public affairs operations in Sacramento, Irvine and San Diego, CA.

She also worked for Burson-Marsteller for 11 years, chairing and building the firm’s worldwide environmental practice, and was an owner and general manager of Goddard Claussen’s Washington, D.C. office, where she worked on the highly acclaimed Harry & Louise campaign.  Among her other major achievements are leading the communications campaign for the successful legislative efforts that secured national class action reform and permanent normal trade relations with China.  She also served as senior strategist on the national “Depression Is Real” campaign and led communication efforts aimed at solving the asbestos litigation crisis.

Carolyn is a recipient of the John Holliman Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications and a 2008 National Colby Award for Lifetime Achievement in Public Relations from Sigma Kappa sorority. She was also named PR News Public Affairs Executive of the Year in 2006 and Washington PR Woman of the Year by Washington Women in PR in 2005.

She currently serves on UGA’s Grady College and Sigma Kappa Foundation board of trustees.  She has established a Public Affairs Communications chair at Grady and is leading a major fundraising effort for Alzheimer’s research for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. Locally, Carolyn is involved in numerous non-profits including serving on the boards of Greater Naples Leadership and Collier Child Care Resources, as well as chairing the communications committee and serving as Guild member for the Shelter for Abused Women.  She is also a member of the executive committee of the SWFL Harry Chapin Food Bank.

Carolyn is a journalism graduate of the University of Georgia.  She lives with her husband Elliott Brown and their Welsh terrier Miss Kirbie.
