Carol Mayne Rose
A native of Jamaica, Carol Rose is a graduate of the University of the West Indies in Kingston and The Ohio State University.
She began her journalism career in government media but soon moved to be part of a team that was starting a daily newspaper, "The Jamaica Record," eventually becoming assistant editor.
She later joined The Gleaner Company newspaper as assistant editor for "The Sunday Gleaner" and went on
to hold the positions of news editor and publications editor.
While in Jamaica, Carol came to the United States on a fellowship to the University of North Carolina and another to the University of Kansas. She also received a fellowship to the United Nations in New York as part of an outreach program for Third World journalists.
She migrated to the United States in 1992 and in the fall of 1993 enrolled in Ohio State's journalism master's program. Upon graduation she was selected to attend a leadership program at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg.
She took a hiatus to focus on her family but returned to journalism as a copy editor at the "Lakeland Ledger" in Lakeland, FL. She soon joined the staff of "The Palm Beach Post" as a copy editor. She eventually became assistant suburban editor but in the summer of 2008 once more returned to life as a copy editor following a major staff reduction.
As the newspaper industry continues its evolution, Carol is passionate about being part of the transition and is convinced that newspapers will continue to play a critical role in society.
