Dr. Tudor Vlad Appointed Research Scientist By University System Board of Regents
Dr. Tudor Vlad, assistant director of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training and Research at the University of Georgia, was appointed research scientist by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia at its regular meeting in late May.
Dr. Vlad joined the Cox Center as a visiting Senior Fulbright Research Scholar in 1999 and was appointed the Center’s assistant director in 2002.
The Romanian native has a doctorate in philology (the study of literature) from Babes-Bolyai University, located in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Dr. Vlad has worked as a journalist for 20 years, has been chairman of the Department of Journalism at Babes-Bolyai and has been a visiting scholar at the University of North Carolina's School of Journalism.
Prior to coming to Georgia, Dr. Vlad published four novels and wrote two additional books, one on the interview and the other on film. He also edited three books and translated a fourth into Romanian. He has written more than 30 essays and commentaries in Romanian journals.
Since coming to Georgia, Dr. Vlad co-edited a volume on copyright and its consequences, authored three book chapters and four journal articles, as well as numerous research reports.
"Tudor's many accomplishments make his new appointment appropriate," said Dr. Lee B. Becker, director of the Cox Center. "The position of research scientist is new to our college but widely used around the university."
With his new appointment as research scientist, Vlad will be eligible for consideration for graduate faculty status. He will continue to serve as assistant director of the Cox Center.
The Cox Center is a unit of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
